Listen to St. Augustine

The Florida town of St. Augustine is, if you didn't know it, an absolute treasure trove for antique lovers. To take full advantage of what they have to offer and the beautiful weather that rolls along with it, October and November are singled out for the best St. Augustine events of the year.

On the last Saturday of every month, the city's Uptown Saturday Night event takes place between 5pm to 9pm in the Uptown San Marco Shopping District. You can browse the shops for rare books and other antiques from the Spanish exploration forward.

And you know I wouldn't even be bringing this up if it weren't for the incredible range of live music that will be available to wandering shoppers. No, this is not just an event for dusty old rummagers, these people take the music into the shops and out onto the streets. Even if you're not a collector, (even if you just came to ride the scary Ripley's Ghost Train) this event is perfect for getting an earful of bands you may have never heard before.

So we have free live music, rare book finds and authors there to sign current works, free wine and refreshments, a beautiful city with beautiful Fall weather ... I can't think of a better place to spend my weekends.

Mandela AIDS Concert

Some nice choices on the lineup ... Annie Lennox is an absolute God.

I'm glad they looked toward mass, worldwide appeal, while still honoring the continent's own musicians. Clegg as the white Zulu ... still makes me laugh a little. Not because it's ridiculous. Just cute.

Casino Bluebook

Frankie Who?

Uh... Frankie Valli covering Stevie Wonder? Am I the only one frightened here?

Is there ever a time to stop and reflect on the great music of the past silently? Do we really have to redo it? Most of it sucked bad enough in its original form. Please don't make us live through it again.

Silence is a golden oldie. New music is good.

Extreme Makeover Rodeo Drive Style

When I think about an extreme makeover, I'm not talking about my living room. I'm talking the entire body job. Well, maybe just a discrete tummy tuck anyway.

Plastic surgery has changed a lot, especially over the last 10 years. The advances that have been made are amazing and places like Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery have recognized the fact that people wanting a makeover want to be treated like humans, not like a piece of flab on a slab.

Dr. Lloyd Krieger, a well-known California plastic surgeon, specializes in tummy tucks and celebrity plastic surgery and can give you the famous Rodeo Drive Belly Button. Not feeling so much like a celebrity right now? Then maybe the Rodeo Drive Mommy Makeover is what you need.

The point is, the Rodeo Drive site is caring, skilled, innovative and accessible. They've been featured in national and international publications like The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Univision, Los Angeles Magazine and England's Daily Mail and Grazia.

To perform the basic tummy tuck surgery, the doctor makes an incision near the bikini or boxer line under the abdomen, allowing the scar to be hidden under clothing after the surgery. Then through this incision, excess skin and fat are removed and the muscles are tightened. The remaining skin is "redraped" to accentuate the body shape. If necessary, the belly button will be repositioned to match the contours of the improved abdomen.

Learn more about the procedures and the surgeon and view the gallery of before and after photographs to get an idea of some of the results. You'll see real photos of real people, scars and all. These aren't faked up, airbrushed pictures, but real results from real people. Keep in mind, your experience may vary as all procedures will produce differing results on differing body shapes and sizes.

Control

... or lack thereof.

This promises to be an interesting serving of biography and music, that will probably bring even more fans into the Joy Division fold. If you were too young or too old to experience the music when it was happening, now is your chance to catch up and both the sound and the personalities behind it.

I hope it lives up to its possibility.

Van Buuren Best DJ

Oh, this was a given. This guy absolutely rocks the floor. A club without Armin is no club at all. I just wish he would hit the States more often, because I could certainly use a good 10 hours or more of non stop dancing about every week.

Congratulations to Armin and runner up Tiesto.

Lana Lane Release

Symphonic rock icon Lana Lane has announced the upcoming December release of her new studio album "Red Planet Boulevard."

The new album follows Lana's 2005 art rock masterpiece "Lady Macbeth", and her highly acclaimed 2006 classic rock covers album "Gemini". Red Planet Boulevard is a melodic rock album that showcases Lana's legendary vocals with timeless songwriting all produced in a modern symphonic rock environment. The atmosphere of the album is both spacious and grand, soaring melodies and intimate phrases play against lush arrangements of guitar and keyboards, all intertwining in a compelling tango of orchestration that is pure Lana Lane.

Recorded in The Netherlands and in San Francisco, California, "Red Planet Boulevard" combines the feeling of European precision and old world mystery with the Bay Area's legendary style and mood. The melange of locations shows in the album's production that is both bombastic and moody, clear and heavy, intimate and extroverted.

Sales Training

After building a reputation as the place to go for training in the field of plumbing, Avand is now expanding its training courses into the area of sales. Whether you're a plumber, a carpenter or a business owner of any type you know that sales is a required part of running a successful venture.

When Avand's plumbing graduates began enquiring about sales training, they realized the importance of offering UK Sales Training to people who want to learn sales, but don't necessarily want a business degree.

If you would like to learn more, visit the site and request details on the available sales training courses.

Don't You Get It

Do we not get the concept of rewarding artists for making their work accessible to fans without the intervention of Big Musick?

Speaking of sick, this article makes me queasy. This is not revolution, this is not changing things for the better. This is theft pure and simple.

And it's stupid.

Garage Bands Listen Up

I have the ultimate answer for you garage bands out there who have the neighbours calling the police at all hours complaining about the "noise" simply because you're trying to rehearse for a gig.

Prefab Concrete Garages.

Need I say more? Well, actually I do. Lidget, the company that makes these wonderful, totally customisable buildings, is in the the UK. (So I don't need any American English folk letting me know that my spelling sucks, all right?) This makes delivery and set up a bit expensive unless you're local.

But Lidget is making state of the art garages even after being in the business for 30 odd years. They know what they're doing and can help you set up the affordable garage band garage of your dreams.

Simply Red to Split

OK, ignore the fact that I didn't even know these guys were still together.

Twenty five years in the music biz is amazing, having done it under one name is even more so. Simply Red has become a name synonymous with a certain sound and we all know how changing a brand usually meets with wild resistance from its fans.

I think it's a smart move from a smart musician.

Could It Be Magic

I hope all of you in the United Kingdom have been paying attention because I've been propping you with some sites to visit for just about everything under the sun. Up today is the new site Magic Loans that offers Home Equity Loans.

In my opinion, the site is clear cut and easy to navigate. They offer secured loans for fixing up the old homestead if that's what you need. Use their loan and budget calculators to narrow down the details about what you can afford. They also have a list of the top five questions people are asking about loans and news updates on what's happening in the home sector.

As I've said a million times, always do your research and ask a lot of questions before you get into deal involving credit or finance in any way.

Sohodolls Download

If you need some raucous music, you need to listen to Sohodolls. The band has a reputation for furious, chaotic, in-your-face live performances, which is all good, always. Sohodolls have shared the European stage with bands such as Daft Punk, The Charlatans and The Magic Numbers.

Get a free download of the Crystal Castle remix of "Trash the Rental,"at Sohodolls' home page.

Rock on.

Print Away

Printing has its price and it's not just the cost of materials. How much time do you figure you've wasted every time you needed to replace a cartridge and couldn't find the right one?

Cartridge Finder is here to end those wasted hours. You can select the brand of your printer and drop down from there to find the cartridge info you need and, by taking advantage of Cartridge Finder's partnership with PriceGrabber, you can find the best price and order right away.

Time saved. Problem solved.

Spanking OiNK

OiNK, you were just asking for it.

Let's engage some reason here people. You're not helping musicians in anyway by dropping their releases before they get a chance to. Convince me how this helps anyone but the owners of the web site. You have to "donate" to upload? This is total crap, welcome to the pen.

Sleepy Time

French Beds in the UK? Who knew?

Well, they know style, as Time 4 Sleep proves. Well known for their line of leather beds, Time 4 Sleep also has a great selection of French bed styles and designs. If you are looking for French antique style reproduction beds - upholstered, wooden, metal or in rattan - you are covered. My favorite is the luxe, king size moulin noir bed, very chic.

With a wood selection encompassing walnut, ash, teak, mahogany, oak, rosewood, pine, redwood and cedar, you will find a bed to match any decor from classic romantic to farmhouse country.

As an incentive, you'll get a discount on their standard mattress prices when you buy a bed frame and if you find the same product at lower price, they promise to beat it.

Alice In Alabama

What I find shocking is the fact that they even let him in Alabama. Let's hope he gets out safely as well. I don't want to be reading about Alice in chains.

Down Solo

Big Blue Hotel

If you've been rocking Blackpool and you need a place for you and the band to crash, take at look at the Big Blue Hotel, one of the finest of Blackpool Hotels.

OK, it's not just for hard rocking indies. This is four star hotel that has a comfy place for business travelers, tourists and families to rest their heads. But don't plan on only sleeping - the hotel has the welcoming Blues Bar with jazz on tap and a great menu at the Blues Brasserie.

And the views! Take in Blackpool's Promenade at look out on Europe's tallest and fastest rollercoaster, the Pepsi Max Big One. The Big Blue Hotel has rooms that overlook the coaster, so even if you're too chicken to ride it yourself you can see the screaming fear etched on the faces of the riders.

Now that's fun.

The Seldon Plan Release

The Seldon Plan - The Collective Now is the follow up to the band's debut and you can find it at the best place online for new and affordable indie music. Yes, you know I'm talking Magnatune.

Highly polished yet exquisitely laid back indie rock: "What impresses us most about this band's music is how unpretentious it is. The smooth, ultra-hummable songs on this CD flow by like big fluffy clouds in the sky.

After spinning this disc a few times...we can't decide which we like better, the debut ... or this? Actually and in fact, we prefer both as they are each equally satisfying and superb."
-Babysue.

Standout tracks include "Colored Lenses," "Seraphim" and our favorite, the deceptively catchy "Modern Vigil." Take a listen. Buy the release.

Sinking Feeling

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you want class, style and innovative design and you want then at your bathroom sink, then you have to hook yourself up with Moen faucets. Fortunately this is just the link you need to do it.

Faucet.com has a huge selection, great prices and quick delivery. They also offer some guides on choosing a faucet so you can match the current set up and won't need to change sinks or counter tops to change the look of your loo. Once you find what you need, a handy link will take you to all the faucets they have available in that style.

Tres cool.

Knocked Up at The Duplex

Gotta love this girl, not just for the voice but the attitude as well. This baby's kicking!

It was so much fun, I'm doing it again - "Knocked Up at The Duplex".

Beats Per Minute Download

To get your groove on, you need to know your Beats Per Minute, otherwise mixing becomes a nightmare and the dance floor's a train wreck. Cry no more:

SongTime is a down-and-dirty little app to take the drudgery and guesswork out of figuring it out! Just run SongTime, enter in the BPM, Beats/Measure, and number of measures, and it will tell you not only how long it will be, but also frame and keyframe times as well. Then, just play with the BPM or any of the other parameters, until the time is right where you want it. Both GUI and commandline version of this utility are available.

Download SongTime freeware here. It works great for doing commercials and syncing music for video, too.

All About Chairs

We are all about leather today and all about chairs. If you are in the market for any type of chair you can find it here.

Take a look at these offering from Furniture From Home: Brown Leather Chairs, Leather Club Chairs (my personal favorite), Recliner Leather Chairs and modern bar stools.

The bar stools are good looking and the price compares to anything I've looked in furniture stores. Add the free shipping and no tax in most areas and you've got yourself a great deal.

Solace - Moon Moth Mixes

I have great new releases announced by Magnatune that I'm going to be sharing with you this week.Solace - Moon Moth Mixes is the first and if you love electronic music with soul, you have to give it a spin. Here's Shannon to tell you more:

When artists get remixed this well, it's not only because there's a demand for more of their work - it's because their work inspires a multitude of approaches to the music.

Bringing together everything that is mysterious and seductive in both electronic and Middle Eastern music, the Moon Moth Mixes are seriously great. Deep, dark, and very sexy, this is the kind of album you can only make when you have achieved fierce levels of expertise and fearlessness in your craft.

Do Enjoy.

Cabinet Cool

I've got some new buzz on my all-time favorite guys - yep, Car Guy Garage. This time we're looking at the cool garage cabinets because we both know what your garage looks like. (Well I know what mine looks like anyway. And I could use some help.)

Their stainless steel cabinets are so cool, unfortunately they look better than my car does. And then, there's the whole thing about needing to clear enough space to be able to put the cabinets in. We're talking floor to ceiling here.

Go take a look. They have a lot to offer.

Bio-Pic Or Pick to Brain?

How can this possibly be a good thing? Well, outside of Ms. Love's pocketbook anyway.

Oh, but they got the guy who did Wolverine? That's so different! He already had experience with portraying the lives of mythical beings.

The May Bees on Wampus

Wampus does it again with that fantastic l'il indie music gig they got going on over there.

It isn't about image. It isn't about entertainment. Great rock is about movement -- of the heart, the mind, the feet. The May Bees, a scrappy, uncompromising duo from The Netherlands, understand this instinctively. They want to make a good impression, sure, and they want to amuse and engage you. But mostly they want to move you, to change you, to leave an indelible mark upon you.

Fueled by the anthemic vox and guitars of Gregory Orange and the distinctive, powerhouse drumming of Marzj, their spirited onslaught evokes a battalion more than a duo. Calling to mind Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Guided By Voices, Sonic Youth, Grandaddy, and Pedro the Lion -- apocalyptic rock-club thrash with a maple-syrup coating -- the May Bees are a raging two-headed pop monster, launching their salvos with melodic abandon at passion volume.

Their international debut, Drop Little Boy, has dropped on Wampus Multimedia.

Canada Adds Music Tariff

I hope this won't affect the musicians' cut in any way. Surely the retailers or record companies will pay for this gratuitous increase.

>bitter laughter<

Sorry, Canada.

The Price of Oil

Well, despite all of our best intentions, the price of oil is still rising. I hate to say it, but I guess we should have known ... those who are old enough to remember the days when the gas to fill your up your car wasn't the most expensive item on your tab from a night out on the town.

We should have taken our parents' advice (the ones who remembered when oil prices were sky high in the '70s) and made some solid oil investments. But when did we ever listen to them?

We're grown up now, but it's not too late. Oil can still be a good investment if you take the time to educate yourself about the risks and learn what to look for in a potential investment. The link above will help you do just that.

After all, why should we let our elected officials do all the profiting?

Royal Returns

Four decades into an impressively resilient career, Billy Joe Royal’s soul-drenched voice is as pliable as ever. That’s demonstrated on his album "Going By Daydreams," which is now available at CD Baby.

Royal girds each of the 10 songs on "Going By Daydreams" with a relaxed confidence. The assurance was always there in his vocals—even at the start, when he established himself with “Down In The Boondocks,” “I Knew You When” and “Cherry Hill Park.”

But that first period of heady fame wasn’t as easy as it appeared — every day was fraught with fear that his good fortune would come to an abrupt halt. Fear is no longer part of the vocation. Royal is a steady presence on the tour circuit, a trusted veteran of several formats, and he’s still got it as a vocalist.

We Can See You

Your home's windows aren't your personal "windows to the world" if the world can look in at you. It's more like a fish bowl than a home, wouldn't you say?

End the endless scrutiny with blinds from Terry's Fabrics online. They can hook you up with the right colours, shades and tones to match about any interior. Need the hardware to hook that up, too? Again, they've got you covered.

Take a look at the ready made blinds on offer now and get privacy and quality at a good price.

Stupidest Interview Ever

Britney gal pal bares all! Oh wait, that's Britney baring it all yet again in a scene we wish would never be repeated. My roommate's basset hound looks more appealing than the stuff she's flopping around.

Role model? Oh yeah. To flappy-faced dogs everywhere. Close your legs. Shut up and sing!

Give It Up, MTV

Why do you think you have to own the Universe? What is your brand even worth any more? You might as well just take your initials from Girls Gone Wild and leave it at that since you rarely have any connection with actual music.

Shaggy Back

I know this isn't indie, but man, it's Shaggy. Damn where have you been?

Get Furnished

Audio-Democracy

Audio-Democracy is an up-and-coming music Web site that's carrying on the indie tradition of thumbing their noses at Big Musick. Here's a quickie intro courtesy of Edward de Leau:

Audio-Democracy, (is) a smaller site where bands can submit tracks and, we, audience, can listen to these tracks and comment on it. Although there are not many bands on there yet, I still like it that I can just press play and listen to music right from the frontpage.

You Want Rock?

I know all you big stars feel the need to flash your diamonds and if your glitter isn't blinding, people start suspecting your last release must have bombed. Avoid the rumors by indulging in some sweet stones from JR Dunn Jewelers.

Whether it's loose diamonds you love or you want a watch to stop time, JR Dunn has it. They currently stock timepieces from Breitling, Tag Heuer, Chopard, and Baume Mercier.

Their designer jewelry is sweet as well. I'm loving the Kimora Lee Simmons Hello Kitty necklace and the deadly appropriate Roberto Coin diamond encrusted skull.

Davies Puts Out

Former Kinks frontman Ray Davies intends to offer his latest album "Working Man's Cafe" free with the Sunday Times newspapers. The free album will be delivered with the paper on October 21st.

A single from the album named "Vietnam Cowboys" will be available as a free MP3 download Time's website for those of you who ignore the media.

Enjoy!

This Isn't Music

Sorry to do this to you, but Clay and Spamalot? How can I not bring this thrilling development to the light?

OK, so is this a step up for Clay or a step down for Spamalot? Please, please keep your answers somewhat civil.

Classic Indie

The original Indie music gets its props Aussie style. Damn, some of them may look stodgy, but I bet that was one hell of an after party. Classic, you could say.

Rock on, Opera. Rock on.

The Day Job

If you have to get a day job to support the band, don't feel bad. John Lennon probably gutted fish or something like that. It can happen.

Fortunately, in our day, you can sign up on a site like Recruit'n and save your feet from beating the hot streets. Yes, this is an online employment site and there are millions of those, but Recruit'n has some features I particularly like.

One point is the profile form. It actually lets you choose from a good variety of job skills and areas, not simply titles. You can chose as many areas as you have skills or experience in by doing control+click of the mouse. Of course, musicians are still pretty much restricted to the "arts/media/design" category.

Another point is the blogs. They have a lot of them and they are actually interesting. Definite bonus points for that.

One thing you should know - all jobs and resumes are submitted to Google Base. If that bothers you and I understand how it might, just don't sign up.

iTunes Drops Price On Some Tunes

iTunes is offering some of "its" DRM-free iTunes Plus songs for $0.99, a drop of 30 cents from the regular price of $1.29. Songs by Flight of the Conchords and The Perishers are among the $0.99 offerings with more expected to be available soon.

Now this couldn't have anything to do with Amazon's recent foray into Big Fat Online Music, could it?

DRM or Death!

Rilo Kiley in Vegas

Thought you might enjoy this wide mouth view of Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis.

If not, please feel free to ignore it. I will, too.

Credit Crunch Time

Holiday time means money crunch time and unfortunately a lot of us have to turn to the old credit card to get some of our shopping done. If you need to search out some offers on Credit Cards to fill up your stockings this year, you might want to look into the Credit Card Search Engine, where you can "Compare, decide and apply."

They have info on low interest cards, cards for folks with bad credit, balance transfer cards and a ton more. They also help you figure out what your interest rate really means. Do your research and do be careful about debt. Credit cards are meant to be tools not crutches.

Angie Stone Debuts

Angie Stone's debut CD, THE ART OF LOVE & WAR, the marquee release on the newly-reactivated Stax Records label, will be in stores Tuesday, October 16.

The CD's first single, "Baby," is currently #2 on both the R&R and Mediabase Urban AC charts with over 15,000 spins to date, reaching an audience of over 136 million listeners. Produced by Co-T and featuring R&B/soul/gospel great Betty Wright, "Baby" has an irresistible groove. The song, "My People," has become an anthem for the survivors of New Orleans' 9th Ward and was personally selected by Essence Magazine Publisher, Susan Taylor as the theme song for this year's Essence Festival.

Get out to that music store now (or then)!

Santa Loves Coupon Codes

I am always on the lookout for online discount codes
and EdealFinder seems to have them. Among the ubiquitous HP coupons is the unexpected ShopNBC with righteous ShopNBC coupon codes of $20, $40, and $80 off. These are the real deals that you see on TV and their special collections offer some really unique jewelry.

Sweet shopping links here. Definitely worth a look.

Real Rap Soldier

You can't get much more indie than this. If this guy raps about a life of violence you know he ain't playing no fake-ass gangsta he saw on MTV.

Cool. Good for him. I hope he does much to enlighten us.

This Is Cruising

I've never been one to claim I'm the best employee money can buy, but if an employer really wanted nothing but the best out of me they couldn't do wrong by putting one of these sweet cruiser bicycles in my inbox.

Take a look at this:

They didn't invent the Third Coast for nothing and these babies look like they could take to the sand as well as the surf.

Ahhh, I'm there...

Damned If You Do

... damned if you don't. Radiohead's recent offer of a free download of their latest album seems to have their fans' panties in a twist for all the wrong reasons.

As MTV.com reports:

When Radiohead announced last week that they would be releasing their seventh album, In Rainbows, via their official Web site, there was much fanfare and some honest-to-goodness debate about the future of the music industry, the validity of major labels and just how people consume music.

But in the days since that announcement, a whole lot of that fanfare has curdled, thanks to moves by the band and its management that some see as dishonest, distasteful and, well, downright un-Radiohead. The sentiment among many fans seems to have gone from admiration for the group's willingness to let the consumer decide how much to pay for the new album to anger over the low quality of the downloads — and dismay over the band's manager's statement that the you-choose-the-price downloads were just a promotional tool for the release of the physical CD.

Hmm ... much to debate here, but since when is releasing a promo in advance of the CD a huge slap in the face to fans? Even back in the old days you had EPs preceding LPs and yes, we had to/willingly paid for those as well.

Eh...

Adding to the List

My Christmas list is already about two miles long and the list of things I need to buy for "others" is almost that long. So, that's right, we're going back to see what CouponChief.com has to offer us this time.

Looks like Hechinger deals are springing up. There are a couple of great options here like 40 percent to 70 percent off on famous brands and free shipping on orders of $50.00 or more. Sweet.

Mmm... this is a new one to me: Coffee For Less coupons. This is a tasty-looking little site with deals like 5 percent off all orders and free shipping on orders of more than $75.00.

OK. Now to turn my attention to the "others" list ...

Indie Rave Next Wave

'Bout darn time ...

Although indie rave has been making waves in the U.K., the music trend -- a hybrid of dance music and punk rock -- has made only ripples on this side of the pond. As the totemic leaders of the sparsely populated movement, the Klaxons have been leading the way in spreading the gospel of indie rave, touring relentlessly since the January release of their debut album, Myths of the Near Future. Their Monday night performance was their first time in the nation’s capital, and despite falling short of filling the club, the people who did turn out were certainly an enthusiastic bunch. -- from Korina Lopez by way of ListenUp.

What could be dreamier? Punk music you can dance to ... without hurting yourself or the ones you love.

~!~

All Fun No Spam

Here's an interesting concept in sweepstakes: the whogets.com online game show. (Insert jazzy theme music here.) At Whogets they have contests for prizes such as cool CDs, clothing, electronics, appliances, DVDs, and what ever fab stuff you can think of - but the kicker is you get to decide who wins. No lame spinning the giant computer-rigged wheel here.

All you have to do to enter is sign up for a free membership and hone some of your persuasive writing skills. This is beyond description and too much fun. Just go there and do it.

P.S. I've been assured there will be NO SPAM.

Chime Time: TV Music Online

I have a great new site for you if you like music videos ... and not just the ones endlessly rotated on whatever lame cable channel you get. My dear friend (well, he doesn't actually know I exist but this is the ether) Edward de Leau posted this up and I stole it for your enjoyment:

Chime.Tv - A video site which includes 4 non-stop video music channels: hits, hindi, hiphop and indie. Besides that it has the best interface I’ve seen until now from the hundreds of online video sites. This one goes instantly in my personally Top list
.

I'm with ya, Ed.

Everybody Must Get Stoned

I have to tell you, the idea of a stone massage never really appealed to me. I always thought it was just a euphemism for ye olde Biblical stoning. This - The Art & Practice of Stone Massage - Video turned it around for me. Watch this massage and feel the envy.

And if you really like it, you can learn how to do it yourself. Talk about a ground-level business opportunity, Ha! I rock.

Spektor's Influences

I love the Detroit Free Press' "Five Questions" gig. This one with Regina is as sweet as anything. I had to laugh at her very long list of influences including Billie Holiday, Bjork, Eminem, and Tom Waits. There's a range of styles for you.

Kinda sad she didn't include Kate Bush though. Every female pianist/composer alive today has been influenced by Bush, whether they know it or not. Tori Amos is nothing but watered-down Kate for the masses. Yeah, I said it and it's about time someone did.

But let's not compare Spektor to Amos. This is her gig.

Falling For Autumn

Sweet! Fall is in the air finally. This is my favorite season ... and being of a pasty white complexion combined with an aversion to sunlight ... I am so glad to start wearing long sleeves again and piling on the layers.

Shopping.com has a huge, warm, fuzzy pile of sweaters and sweatshirts and hoodies all heaped up for us to rummage through.

I really like the Fanzone Sports college football hoodies this year and the "Majestic Mens Therma Base" fleece pullovers really rock with that shoulder design. You should check it out. Men, women, kids, something in between, you'll find the warmth you need at the price you like.

Hey, I sound just like a professional here.

Thinking About Black Friday

I can't believe the run down to the holidays is already in full swing. Seems like just yesterday I was out floating in the pool, smelling BBQ from the neighbors - wait. That was yesterday. Now I've got to start thinking Christmas?

The worst part of the whole holiday season is the dreaded ... blackfriday. (insert sound effects here) For the two of you who don't know, that is the day after Thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year. "Shopping day" sounds so festive, but it's really a shopping nightmare.

This year I've got it solved. Black-Friday.net has all the ads already, I can get on their mailing list to be alerted of new ads and merchants, and I can order everything I need online from an amazing variety of stores without leaving home that day! (We're talking everything from Target to Pacsun to Circuit City.) I'm so looking forward to gnawing on a turkey leg and looking up Harbor Freight deals at the same time. Without having to push through the overstuffed geeks looking for new toys. I love them. I love the holidays.

Not More Mellencamp

Never one to miss a bandwagon, Johnny the Cougar has released a song about the Jena 6.

WTF? Milking racial tension for air time is almost as bad as inciting racial tension in the first place. And using civil rights and lynching images in the video just makes it worse. You weren't there - you didn't make those changes or take those risks, so don't exploit them.

Johnny-boy, close your mouth and open your wallet if you want to effect change.

No More Limits

If you find yourself limited by certain search engines and their totally irrelevant results, you will do you business a huge favor by looking into Masterseek.

When you masterseek, you take advantage of a global search engine with free access to more than 45 million companies in 75 countries. Your search includes company profiles, contact information, and descriptions of products and services.

Better yet, you can add your business to this powerful search and find company among companies you never knew existed.

Processor: My Industry at Magnatune

I've been missing the house, and Shannon at Magnatune came through not a minute too soon:

"BIG sound," says Breakbeat Paradise and boy are they right. Rock hard rhythms and darkly glinting vocals make for an awesomely un-small album of fantastic industrial house! We especially love the title track and "Greed" is a fantastically taut assault, too.

Check it out at Magnatune - Processor: My Industry.

Paintball Nirvana

Oh my, I have found the ultimate source for paintball equipment ... I just opened the front page and my eyes rolled back in my head and my trigger finger started itching.

Instead of just offering some feeble psi paintball guns and some dye, Ultimate Paintball takes you right into the game with full packages - everything you'll need to get down and get gunning. My absolute favorite (because you know what a sneaky one I am) is the brand new Black Spyder MR2 Paintball Gun SNIPER Set.

Some features of the MR2 include an off set feed neck for true rifle-like sighting, a "snap grip" bolt to help eliminate outside movement of the bolt while firing and up to 25 shots per second. While no sniper in their right mind would need 25 shots per second, it would come in handy if you just happened upon an opposing team during a strategy meeting or if you found yourself surrounded by paint-happy freaks after you picked off what you thought was a lone sentry.

Great site. Enjoy!

You Can't Be Serious Files 2

Michelle Shocked goes Gospel? You can't be serious. Even in the oxygen-deprived heights of Telluride, Colorado, you'd never expect this. All that head in the clouds must have gotten to her.

You Can't Be Serious Files 1

Number One in today's "You can't be serious" files is the newest release from John Denver, who, last we checked, was Still Dead.

I'm Still in the Game

All right, I know you've been mocking me for not making the upgrade to XBOX 360 and the fact that I can't touch "Halo 3" with a ten-foot controller cord, but I have a life people! I can't jump on every bandwagon that swings by. Gosh darnit, my XBOX still works fine.

And now your mocking falls on deaf ears because I have found an online Mecca for cheap video games that I can both play and afford. Ha! Picture "Conflict Global Terror" for less than 9 bucks. "Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter" for less than $5. And I've just begun my search on this site.

You people are so mean that I didn't want to give the link to you, but I'm trying to learn to share. (See earlier post.)

By the way, just how much did you pay for "Halo 3"? hahaha!

The End Is Nigh - Sony and BMG

Get in the handbasket because you know where we're headed now. As if the Big 'Uns aren't big enough what with their mating with each other and soon to be eating their own offspring. The bell tolls from Hollywood Today:

Indies Lose Battle to Prevent Sony and BMG Merger

EU regulators announced on Wednesday that they will uphold the previously greenlit recorded music merger between Sony and BMG.

Independent labels in Europe protested the merge, arguing that the creation of Sony BMG would lead to major-label domination in the European industry.

Read on, if you can stand it.

Off To Loch Lomond

For those of you who never thought Loch Lomond was even a real place - it is. It's an exquisite area between the Scottish southern highlands and the western not-so-high-lands. If you and the bandmates are sick of the monte carlo scene (or the motel 6 scene, you should really nip over to the loch lomond bed and breakfast where they'll treat you like a real star.

If the beautiful Fascadail country guest house isn't enough to convince you, maybe the Glengoyne Single Highland Malt Scotch Whiskey distillery tour will give you the incentive. Just keep in mind that fascadail means "tranquil place" in Gaelic, so keep the noise down.

Aye ... we love ye, Scottland.

RIAA Downs Minn. Woman

Those rat-eyed barstids. I bet she caved. I bet Vinny "The Juicer" met her in a back alley holding a knife to one of her children's throats and told her to fold the deck or else.

How dare she share!? Wasn't she taught in kindergarten NOT to share like the rest of us greedy execs? The woman obviously has no morals and is a menace to society. I think the poor musicians whose livelihood she stole will be so happy to get their fair share of that money. They will get their fair share, right? It was their music, right?

Oh, shut me up.

Bloggerwave Crests

If you need a way to earn some money from your blog, you might consider signing up for Bloggerwave, which is now live and is looking for bloggers.

What's cool about this site is that they are not totally U.S. focused. They are actively looking for writers in languages such as Danish, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Italian, French and Spanish along with English. It sounds like a great way to join a nice little international community and write about the things that interest you while supporting your blog habit.

Enjoy!

80s Band Reunite

I'm sorry ... who? Who did you say that was? I thought I remembered the Eighties, but apparently there are a few gaps. Paul Young? That name sounds somewhat familiar, but that person's looking more like Neil Young than anyone I recall.

Thank God I'm the only one who doesn't age. Now who are those older chicks? Some musicians' mums?

Health Break

We're taking out a moment to talk about health - specifically obesity. Not to say any of us who sit at our computers all day could fall into that category, but just for the discussion's sake ...

If your weight is such an issue that your doctor has suggested obesity surgery ask him or her to look into Lap-Bands, the only weight-loss surgery that's adjustable to your life and condition and is completely reversible. The site has links to support groups, message boards, member forums, recipes, tips for success, and nutrition education.

UMG Sucking In the UK

Our friends over at Punknews.org has alerted us to a situation in the UK that sounds strangely familiar.

Independent music labels in the United Kingdom have called for the Universal Music Group to be investigated for anti-competitive acts in their domination of the music industry. Currently, 55% of artists topping the charts in the UK are signed to the label or one of its many subsidiaries.

Having one label take so much of the airwaves wouldn't be so bad, if the musick was something the people actually wanted to hear.

Bed Buddies

We pick up a lot of interesting things in our travels, but I never really considered the thought of picking up little buggers. Meaning bed bugs. Seriously, I thought these went out of style with hoop skirts and indoor plumbing.

But the fact that there's a site explaining "how bed bugs got in your house" makes me... itchy. And not itchy to travel, because that appears to be one of the main ways you may bring the little creatures into your house.

OK, next time just send a postcard?

The Biggest Kooks Ever

Wait...

Maybe they meant the biggest festival ever. ehh.
